The RAF Red Arrows Aerobatics Team

The world famous Red Arrows consisting of 9 BAe Hawks will again headline the show for their 12th appearance at Dawlish Carnival. The reception they get from you, the spectators, makes Dawlish one of their preferred places in the world to perform.

Dawlish’s setting gives spectators a unique viewpoint of the display especially for photographers, evidence of which is dotted around the Internet including some wonderfully edited videos. This year the lead aircraft, Red 1, will be flown by Wng Cmdr Jas hawker with the whole team carrying out their full 20 minute breathtaking display of aerobatics for the crowds in Dawlish including maneouvures such as the famous Diamond Roll and the Typhoon Roll.

The aircrew also includes Devonian Flt Lt Damian Ellacott, his second year with the team. Red 10 Flt Lt Andy Robins will again commentate. He will land in his helicopter at one of the static display sites before proceeding to the Sea Front Commentator's and ATC Area.

The Eurofighter Typhoon Display

The Typhoon (previously known as the Eurofighter) is the RAF's only fast jet display act this year and it is the aircraft's first appearance at Dawlish.

The Typhoon was a joint project between the UK, Germany, Italy and France. The aircraft is designed for high altitude supersonic air combat but equally dynamic at low levels as the spectators at the airshow will see. Flight Leiutenant Jim Walls is the display pilot backed up by a support crew of 6 people.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

The Battle of Britain was the last major battle to take place in British Airspace. The bravery and skills of the heavily outnumbered crew both in the air and on the ground was something we all need to remember and be thankful for.

The BBMF is based at RAF Coningsby (the same home as the Typhoon) and maintains a sizeable fleet of aircraft including a Lancaster Bomber, Chipmunk and numerous variants of the Spitfire a well as the Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota you will see today.
